One of the most common procedures is lip filler and not surprising, they are the most googled beauty search term! There are few different questions that we get but the top 3 are; is lip filler painful? and am I going to swell or bruise?! Is one syringe going to make me look like a duck?! We’ve answered all your questions, read to find out everything you’ve been wanting to know.
– One full syringe is going to make me look overfilled and “duck-like.” One syringe of filler is actually just 1/5 of a teaspoon, you will see subtle results but one syringe will not give you an overfilled looked. Lip filler can be very natural, it just all depends on patients desires.
– Once you have the filler, it cannot be reversed. False, since it is a hyaluronic acid based filler, it can be dissolved using Hyaluronidase.
Lip filler is made out of Hyaluronic Acid (HA) which our body naturally has, it can actually hold up to 1000 times its weight in water. The reason hyaluronic acid is used in filler is because it is dissolvable. It is not a permanent solution and depending on the filler, it can last 6-12 months.
We apply a topical lidocaine numbing cream prior to treatment and the filler itself has lidocaine in it! The procedure is much less painful than you would expect. We also offer a “dental block” which is intraoral (in the mouth) injections of local anesthetic, most people are okay with just the topical numbing cream!
To reduce your risk of swelling after fillers, you should discontinue any blood thinners; i.e Omega 3 fatty acids (fish oil), Advil, and Vitamin E. You should also avoid alcohol a few days prior to your treatment. If you are prone to cold sores, please call our office for additional pre care instructions. You can take Bromelain or eat pineapple; Bromelain is derived from pineapples, it has anti-inflammatory properties and plays a role in helping to reduce bruising and swelling. All of these options are just to help prevent, there is always a risk of bruising with any treatment.
You will be the most swollen the day after your treatment, don’t be alarmed. The swelling will subside over the course of 2 weeks. Sleeping with your head elevated the first night can help prevent any additional swelling. Arnica (tablets or gel) helps swelling and helps with discoloration from bruising. We recommend post filler, using Image Skincare’s Ormedic lip enhancing complex. It is specifically designed to enhance the appearance and volume of lip contours. It is an ultra-hydrating powerful polypeptide complex that will add 40% of moisture volume with repeat usage. It visibly diminishes fine lines and helps reduce inflammation after lip injections! It is said to enhance the effects of dermal fillers. (We now carry the entire Image Skincare line, along with the lip enhancement complex)
(As shown above, there is a cannula option to also help reduce the risk of bruising and swelling)
